Falcons receive great injury news on Clark Phillips III
Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

After going down in a joint practice with the Dolphins and being carted off the field , it seems Falcons rookie Clark Phillips III has avoided serious injury.

Josh Kendall of The Athletic reports the Utah product is considered day-to-day, which is as good as the team could’ve hoped for.

Phillips going down scared a lot of Falcons fans because it followed Jeff Okudah going down with what seemed to be a potentially serious injury on Friday. The recently acquired Okudah was also carted off the field, but Arthur Smith reported “very positive news” after an MRI.

Atlanta’s head coach added that he expects Okudah back at some point early in the regular season, and it seems the club once again avoided disaster with Phillips. Both are set to have major impacts in 2023, so it can’t be understated how important this news is.

When Okudah returns, I assume he will slot in opposite of A.J. Terrell on the boundary. Phillips was in competition for the starting nickel role with Mike Hughes and Dee Alford. This obviously is a major setback in that aspect, but it doesn’t rule out the rookie from starting at some point this season.

All in all, it’s just good to see neither of the Falcons corners are seriously hurt.
