Houston Texans’ C.J. Stroud Reveals Hilarious Way He Found Out About Stefon Diggs Trade
Nathan Ray Seebeck-USA TODAY Sports

C.J. Stroud woke up to some of the best news imaginable for a burgeoning young quarterback; that his Houston Texans had traded for dynamic wide receiver Stefon Diggs.

“When I found out,” Stroud told reporters on Monday, during the first day of the Texans’ offseason program. “I was actually asleep. I was sleeping, on the west coast, I’ve been back home in LA, I was knocked out.

“I keep my phone on do not disturb, I get a lot of phone calls, and so, I didn’t really know. I woke up and my boy Chase B texted me ‘how you feelin’, bro,’ and he asked me … and I was like ‘I’m good fam, how are you?’ So, I answered like five texts like that. So, I woke up, for real this time, I was kind of half-awake texting in the bed, woke up, brushed my teeth, washed my face, and then I seen the news on Instagram and I was like ‘oh shoot, that’s what they’re talking about.’ So, I didn’t tell Chase B, or anyone like that, I thought he was just checking up on me.”

As it turns out, stroud’s friends just wanted to get his thoughts on the news of one of the biggest acquisitions made across the NFL this offseason.

What Stefon Diggs Brings Houston Texans, C.J. Stroud

Stroud is already one of the most electrifying young quarterbacks across the NFL, and is looking to build on his stellar Offensive Rookie of The Year campaign in 2023.

For their part, the Texans have made a significant commitment to significantly bolstering the supporting cast around Stroud, aiming to capitalize on the Super Bowl window presented by the young quarterback being on his affordable rookie contract.

General manager Brandon Beane and the Bills sent Diggs and a sixth-round pick in this years draft as well as a 2025 fifth-round pick to the Texans in exchange for a sixth-round pick in this year’s draft and a fifth-round pick in 2025.

Diggs remains an electrifying playmaker and arrives at the top of a receiving corps that already boasts young stars like Nico Collins and Tank Dell, whose explosiveness was on full display with Stroud behind center.

Last season, Diggs caught 107 passes for 1,183 yards and eight touchdowns. Houston is betting big that he’ll make a Texas-sized impact on Stroud and the offense.

“Houston now has three different receiving styles and all kinds of depth,” an AFC Scouting Director tells me. “Tank is a vertical threat, Nico and Diggs can work underneath along with Dalton Schultz. They’ll create some really tough matchups, for sure.”
