Jacoby Brissett Ready To Battle For New England Patriots Starting Job
Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

As the New England Patriots get ready for the offseason, it appears like they will have a little bit of a quarterback battle heading into Week 1 between Drake Maye and Jacoby Brissett.

After a disappointing end to the Bill Belichick era in New England, the Patriots are a team looking to rebuild. Their decades-long run of success has come to an end and they are looking to start a new chapter.

Since Tom Brady left, the quarterback position has been a mess for New England and a leading reason why they have struggled. In the 2024 NFL Draft, the Patriots hoped that they would address that by selecting Drake Maye from UNC. Maye has the potential to be a great quarterback in the league, but rookies sometimes take time to develop.

With Maye being a rookie and potentially needing some time to learn, the Patriots also have signed Jacoby Brissett to the team. Brissett is no stranger to New England, as he got his start there. While Maye might be the future at the position Brissett isn’t here to just sit on the bench. Recently, he spoke about being excited about the opportunity to play in New England.

“That’s all out of my control, so I don’t worry about that. I’m excited to have him on the team, and the other guys we drafted and picked up. I think it’s going to be good,” he said.

Throughout his career, Brissett has been a very serviceable quarterback in the NFL. While he isn’t a superstar in the league, he has been able to come in and win games in the NFL. With Maye being the future of the franchise as of now, Brissett can certainly help them win some games if he is asked to start.

As the offseason programs begin, the quarterback situation will be an interesting one to monitor in New England. If Maye isn’t ready to start in Week 1, we very well could see Brissett starting games in New England once again.
