Devils at the World Championship: The Devils Can’t Stop Scoring

After an assist in the opening game, Jonas Siegenthaler has gone pointless over the past two games but is getting substantial ice time. As for the other Devils Swiss representative, Akira Schmid made his debut in relief against Austria, saving five shots and letting in one goal.

Team U.S.A

Luke Hughes and the Americans shook off a bad opening day loss to Sweden by taking out Germany 6-1. Hughes scored his first goal of the World Championship off of a wicked wrister from the top of the left circle and found the back of the net for what was the fourth U.S. goal of the game.

The U.S. followed that up with a 5-4 OT loss to Simon Nemec and the Slovaks. However, Hughes found himself back on the scoresheet with an incredible end-to-end rush goal reminiscent of the one he scored against the Columbus Blue Jackets back at the end of December. He also added an assist on a Matt Boldy goal.

Team Canada

Team Canada has opened the tournament with victories over Great Britain and Denmark. Nico Daws and Dawson Mercer are the two Devils representatives for the Canadian, and while Daws has yet to see any game time, Mercer found the back of an empty net against Denmark.

Mercer got a nearly four-minute bump in ice time from game one to game two and was rewarded fourth goal of the game. Meanwhile, Daws continues to back up starter Jordan Binnington and will look for an opportunity for some game action in the coming days.

Team Slovakia

Slovakia continues to make waves after an opening-day loss to Germany. They handily took down Kazakhstan 6-2 and followed it up with an impressive 5-4 win against the Americans.

Devils own, Simon Nemec also finds himself playing a major role for the Slovaks, registering two assists in 18:28 of ice time against Kazakhstan. Against fellow rookie Luke Hughes and Team U.S.A, Nemec scored his first goal of the tournament on a one-timer from the point as well as having the primary assist of the game-winning overtime goal.

Team Czechia

The World Championship hosts and Devil Ondrej Palat continue their strong play after their opening day shootout win against Finland. They followed it up with a 6-3 win against Norway before falling to Hischier and the Swiss 2-1 in the shootout.

Palat continued the Devils goal streak as he too found the back of the net for his country. He potted home the empty netter to seal the game, as well as adding an assist. Against Switzerland, Palat was less fortunate, going pointless in 19:39 of ice time.
