Simone Inzaghi provided an update on his new Inter contract and underlined his and the club’s ambitions moving forward.

The Nerazzurri were a cut above their rivals in Serie A this term as they charged to their 20th Scudetto, an achievement that earnt them the right to wear the second star on their shirts. They’ve only lost twice in the league all season, both times to relegation candidates Sassuolo.

Inter are now gearing up for an important 2024-25 campaign, where they’ll look to defend their Serie A title and complete some unfinished business in the Champions League. They’ll also be competing in the revamped Club World Cup in the summer of 2025.

Inzaghi talks Inter future

Speaking via Sportmediaset, Inzaghi first discussed when he’ll sign a new long-term contract with Inter.

“I said it after the Torino game. Winning the league five games early was wonderful, considering what the Inter fans gave us.

“Now we have the last games of the league to face in the best possible way, then I’ll meet with the management.”

He touched on what the Nerazzurri should be moving forward.

“We must be a strong Inter, we must improve our objectives every year. Thinking of six trophies and a Champions League final when I arrived three years ago seemed unimaginable, but there was a lot of hope.

“I knew I would find a strong club, with very strong directors, I think of Marotta, Ausilio, Baccin… I knew that, despite the difficulties we were talking about, they would build competitive teams.

“Then with the team and the fans all together we managed to win six trophies and reach a Champions League final, something that will stay with you forever.”

Inzaghi was asked if the deal agreed between Suning and Pimco gave him confidence.

“I must be honest, we have always had this tranquillity. President Zhang did not let me personally or my guys lack anything, his absence this year was almost never felt because every week there was a continuous conversation, he always helped us, and I’ve never had a problem.”

He commented on Inter’s objectives moving into next season.

“The objective must always be to win, because it’s a fantastic team with wonderful fans that everyone has seen. We will try to improve as we have done every year, knowing that it won’t be very simple because there are teams that have the same objectives as us.”

Finally, Inzaghi described the mindset behind his system at Inter.

“I think of my boys, who had an extraordinary season. It’s a path that objectively will be difficult to repeat but we have a club that have not only rejoiced for the league but are constantly working and moving to ensure that things can continue the same way.”
