Mario Giuffredi, the agent of Matteo Politano, confirmed that an offer had arrived from Saudi Arabia and noted that the ball was now in Napoli’s court.

The 30-year-old Italian winger has 18 months left on his contract with the Partenopei and has been expecting a new deal for some time now, but no agreement has been reached yet with club president Aurelio De Laurentiis.

Al-Shabab reportedly prepared a €12m offer to Napoli for Politano, who in turn has received a three-year contract offer worth around €7m net per season plus add-ons.

Speaking to Radio CRC via Calciomercato.com, Giuffredi first discussed the contract renewal talks with Napoli.

“Regardless of whether he is the best player in terms of performance at Napoli, when he arrived, he scored 10 goals, last year he won a scudetto, this year he has scored six goals and provided five assists. At the moment he is the one who expressed the best football in Napoli.

“With De Laurentiis we talked about the renewal already in the summer and the conditions weren’t there, so we let the thing lapse.

“In the following months we continued to talk about it and the president made a commitment to me saying he would renew the contract, but things got postponed for one reason or another.”

He confirmed that an offer had arrived from Saudi Arabia and that the decision now lay with Napoli.

“Today this offer arrived from Saudi Arabia, we left the choice to the team. But De Laurentiis knows well what Politano’s will is.

“The president has made himself available to review Politano’s contractual position, but things they must be done in the shortest possible time because time passes and things must be seen as soon as possible out of respect for the guy.”

Finally, Giuffredi was asked about the idea of Politano signing a new deal in the summer.

“I am convinced that this situation will be resolved as soon as possible. I speak for myself, and the president has always kept his words. I see that there is a desire to renew Politano. If you want to turn this season around you need to have calm players, this applies to everyone, not just for Politano.

“It’s not in anyone’s interest to take the situation any further. If the situation wasn’t resolved soon, I would worry about having a troubled player for the next six months because you wouldn’t have let him leave or renew his deal.”

This season, Politano has scored six goals and provided five assists in 24 appearances across all competitions.
